The ASEAN Collective

Welcome to the ASEAN Collective (ASEC). ASEC is a collection of Op-eds featuring the voices of emerging Indo-Pacific young leaders, including activists, policy analysts, historians, creatives, artists, and other future changemakers in the ASEAN diaspora. If you would like to contribute a piece to ASEC, submit your op-ed through the 'Submit an Op-ed' button. Be sure to read the Op-Ed guidelines below to give you a better understanding on how to write an Op-ed piece. 

Call for Papers: ASEAN regional Identity

Papers should be sent to info@usaseanypa.org & mike.rattanasengchanh@msutexas.edu. The e-mail should contain:

  1. the name, title and affiliated organization/institution of the main author and potential presenter

  2. the names of the co-authors

  3. an abstract of the paper

  4. the full paper as an attachment. The email subject should read, “[Submission] ASEAN Regional Identity Submission.”

Only papers submitted by the deadline will be considered. Notification of acceptance will be given within two weeks at the latest. Details will be circulated after notification of acceptance.

Accepted Papers will be accepted in the first US ASEAN Young Professionals Association's Research Journal on ASEAN Regional Identity.

📝 About the Journal Issue

In recognition of East Timor’s accession to ASEAN, we are launching a special edition academic journal exploring the shifting dynamics of Southeast Asia’s regional identity, diplomacy, and cooperation. This issue will feature critical reflections and original research on the political, historical, and social implications of ASEAN enlargement and integration.

We invite abstract submissions on the following themes (and related topics):

  • ASEAN Enlargement

  • Regional Identity

  • Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding

  • Consensus and Non-Interference

  • Youth-Centered Diplomacy

  • Historical Memory and Nation Building

  • Comparative Reflections on Regional Integration

We welcome contributions from:

  • Scholars and Academics

  • Graduate and Undergraduate Students

  • Independent Researchers

  • Policy Analysts and Think Tank Experts

  • Civil Society and Community Leaders

Interdisciplinary and regionally diverse perspectives are highly encouraged.

  • Abstract Format: Max 300 words, clearly stating your topic, approach, and relevance

  • Full Paper Length: 3,000–4,000 words

  • Citation Style: APA (7th Edition)

  • Notification of Acceptance: Early August 2025
