The State of ASEAN American studies in the US
In partnership with Make Us Visible Virginia Chapter, Center for Lao Studies, Laotian American National Alliance, the US ASEAN Young Professional Association presents "The State of ASEAN American Studies in the US." In this diplodemy series, we will be having a roundtable discussion with experts directly involved with creating curriculum and political advocacy on the need of ASEAN American Studies.
Across the United States, states such as California, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, have passed laws to include both Asian American, specifically Cambodian, Hmong, and Vietnamese history and education into their curriculum in K-12 school systems.
Simultaneously, there has been a big push to include more foreign policy education, along with more curriculum surrounding Southeast Asian language programs. Join us as we discuss with experts directly involved in creating the curriculum and creating policies on the importance of including ASEAN-American history in our K-12 and higher education classrooms.
