The East West Center in Washington DC

The East-West Center in Washington (EWCW) offers a chance each semester for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates, to gain first-hand training experience at a US-Indo-Pacific research and education organization in Washington, DC. These may include acquiring and analyzing large datasets for our Asia Matter for America publications, writing articles for AsiaMattersforAmerica.org, attending webinars or seminars, and delivering briefs.

Applicants typically have a strong interest in US-Indo-Pacific relations and maybe studying international relations, Asia studies, international economics, international political economy, public policy, international business, or other similar areas of study. However, all students and recent graduates who are interested in learning more about US-Indo-Pacific relations are encouraged to apply.

Research Assistant Internship

Asian Trade Center

The Asian Trade Centre (ATC) is seeking a Research Analyst to join our team for its summer internship program. Research Analysts are key contributors to the design, development, and delivery of ATC’s trade research, capacity building, thought leadership, and advocacy products. The ATC is the premier regional thought leader, advocate, and educator for trade in Asia. We work closely with governments, companies, academic institutions, think tanks, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, and development agencies in the region and across the world on trade-related activities in Asia.

The US ASEAN Business Council Internship Program in meant to provide a hands-on experience in the field of U.S. – ASEAN business relations.  Throughout the internship, students will collaborate directly with country and industry teams, undertaking highly substantive work, including research, social media, program support and attendance, and various other tasks in support of their members

Business and Public Policy Internship (Singapore)

US ASEAN Business Council

The US ASEAN Business Council 
currently accepting internships applications for our Singapore regional headquarters. The intern will undertake substantive work, consisting largely of research and other projects in support of Council goals. Council internships offer a wealth of enriching opportunities, such as access to our high-level conferences and events with ASEAN policymakers and business leaders.
The Business and Public Policy Intern will assist Country and Industry Teams in providing forward-looking research and support to the Council's 160+ members, which include companies such as Google, Chevron, The Coca-Cola Company, Citi, Microsoft, and Procter & Gamble.

Internship for the ASEAN Standards and Certification for Experts in Disaster Management (ASCEND) Project – ASEAN and Republic of Korea (ROK) Internship (2 positions)

ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance

The AHA Centre supports the internship programme with the aim to promote growth and learning opportunities to qualified students. The AHA Centre will offer outstanding and qualified students the opportunity to experience and obtain direct exposure to the organisation activities. The intern will have practical experience in various aspects of actual work by supporting a project that involves all ten ASEAN Member States, donor countries, and relevant partners and stakeholders. The intern will be part of the team that manages a three-year programme called ASCEND or the ASEAN Standards and Certification for Experts in Disaster Management. The intern will work under the supervision of an identified staff member at the AHA Centre (responsible officer/RO)

Summer 2022 Southeast Asia Program Internship

The Stimson Center

The Southeast Asia program at Stimson offers internships throughout the year, with some flexibility regarding exact start and end dates. The program works to address important and timely policy issues concerning sustainable infrastructure development and clean energy development from a multidisciplinary perspective with a focus on Southeast Asia.
Currently, the program is active on four main issue areas: (1) the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and the current lack of regional coordination and system-scale planning of hydropower and its role within the broader food-water-energy nexus; (2) infrastructure development in Southeast Asia and the impacts of development partner initiatives such as China's Belt and Road Initiative, the United States' Indo-Pacific Strategy, Japan's Partnership for Quality Infrastructure; (3) regional economic and political developments involving ASEAN member states in support of the Southeast Asia Forum, and 4) legacies of the U.S. war in Vietnam, including Agent Orange and unexploded ordnance

Intern, Congressional Affairs

The National Bureau of Asian Research

The Congressional Affairs Intern supports the National Bureau of Asia Research (NBR)'s engagement with the U.S. Congress and assists with other U.S. government relations. This opportunity allows an entrepreneurial individual to develop skills in engaging and understanding the Asia policy community, as well as in communications, event planning, relationship management, and project management through unique on-the-job experience.
This is a paid, part-time (20 hours per week), special assignment (6-month with possible extension of up to 6 months), opportunity located in NBR's Washington, D.C. office. The Intern reports to the Director, Congressional Affairs.

Associate/Manager (Washington, DC)

US ASEAN Business Council

The Council’s Associate/Manager position is based in Washington, DC and supports a number of the Council’s programs and initiatives pertaining to specific countries and industry sectors represented by the Council’s members. At this time, we are seeking an individual with experience in and/or significant knowledge of the ICT sector, as well as Vietnam. High preference will be given to candidates with fluency in spoken and written Vietnamese. The successful candidate will monitor media/press in Southeast Asia and internationally on the industry/country areas s/he is assigned. S/he will identify and develop partnership opportunities with relevant stakeholders including the U.S. government, ASEAN member governments, think tanks, universities and other trade/sector-specific organizations and associations. S/he will also identify, monitor and address policy challenges and opportunities affecting those stakeholders and is expected to have the ability to develop and grow contacts with them. In addition, s/he is expected to develop an understanding of the Council’s member companies as well as cultivate contacts with their executives, academics, think tank officers and the media in Washington, DC and beyond. S/he will interact regularly with the corporate member leadership of the Council’s pertinent committees and with the ASEAN-based liaisons as well as representatives of the Council’s member companies throughout ASEAN, Asia and the United States. S/he will also provide support to the membership team’s goals of expanding the Council and assist in the retention of current Council members, potential upgrades and recruitment of new members.
